Duck, duck, goose…

November 21, 2014 1 comment

AuthorNo, despite the rumors, I am not starting a new foodie blog. Those few words overheard at a recent dinner put the title on a topic that seems like it would be second nature. As I have seen recently, there can be a big difference between a perfectly flowing display & graphic project verses one that just spits and sputters like a too-hot pot of southern corn grits.

How To Not Sweat The Details

August 29, 2014 1 comment

AuthorAs this summer rolls along and the familiar sounds of the show floor in full swing are not far off, most of us are reminded that a few more weeks of watching the heat index has to be endured and there is still a bit of sweating to be done both physically and mentally – which conjures up the old cliché “sweat the details”.

While the Optima staff may not be able to do much about bringing down those cold fronts for an early fall, we can help cool off some of the potential hot issues in in your graphic production.

From Concept To Reality

February 28, 2014 1 comment

Concepts, renderings and illustrations all are simple ideas waiting to become reality and sometimes bridging that gap is a breeze and – well, other times a bit more complicated. It does remain one of the more enjoyable aspects of being in the graphic and display business. Projects can take on the feel of that awesome science project you had so much fun with in high school or the final lab project on campus and yes, even the project that your inner self said ‘no way’ and you charged ahead anyway.

So there may be no crying in baseball but who says you can’t have fun with graphics and displays?

As so often happens during one of my visits with a customer, we are huddled around the conference table after reviewing the latest Optima product updates and the conversation turns to one or more upcoming projects that need a little more noodling around time. This is one aspect of what we get to do in this industry with the always full pipeline of the customer question, “can this be done”?

“Why sure” we almost always say, hang up the phone and then look at the contact list of industry go-to guys who could possibly help with this latest off-the-wall, almost wacky request.

Summertime Magic

OK, so getting all the settings dialed in on my new smart phone has been pushed to the top of the “to do” list, I am reminded of how this time of year it can be a little tougher connecting with all the VIP’s in our lives with vacation travel schedules, much needed down time and those pesky honey-do’s.

So just a reminder that to reach the real stars of Optima, they are only an 800 number away (800-844-8877) and yes, even Instant Messaging now might seem old-school but there it is on It’s on the top left corner of every page, give it a try!

Staying Relevant

March 15, 2013 1 comment

adjective \ˈre-lə-vənt\
a : having significant and demonstrable bearing on the matter at hand

Exhibitor 2013 is upon us already and it seems like we just put away the gift wrap!
Participation this year from all badge colors looks to be very strong and it is becoming clear that one of the main goals shared by all who attend (whether we know it or not) is practicing the art of staying RELEVANT.

Continuing education courses, new product introductions, networking events, roundtables, social media games are all designed to help share knowledge and awareness of our industry through personal and corporate goals.theme Participating in industry events like Exhibitor is just one of many ways we gain the knowledge and experience needed to be Relevant and have positive impact on our peers, colleagues and customers. Yes, Relevant is a bit of a buzzword currently, but that’s one bandwagon that seems worth riding.

Looking forward to the next week and hope to see you there.

Be sure to follow Optima during the show on twitter.

True Thanksgiving at The Randy

After a recent ah-ha moment during one of my many trips to Greater Atlanta, I was reminded about one of our industry’s long lasting charitable events, The Randy Smith Memorial Golf Classic. Presented by the EDPA and E2MA through the tireless efforts of many members and volunteers this event is a true reminder of the good that can happen born out of unfortunate circumstances.Through this tournament nearly 100 trade show industry employees and their families have benefited from the revenue raised. The benefactors have suffered through life changing family tragedies and face an uphill battle with challenging medical expenses and this annual event has been a huge help. Read more…
