What’s up with this V-Stand?

January 6, 2017 Leave a comment

AuthorI had this question from a customer following our recent product launch of the V-Stand and their receiving of our marketing e-mail. Now this customer loves the Pronto and considers it their go-to for a retractable banner stand. He was wondering when and how he should sell this vs. the Pronto. I realized he was probably not alone in wondering this so here’s my take on that subject.

Pillows… really???

AuthorWhen I’m meeting with customers who haven’t known Optima very long it can be difficult to convey all the things we offer and their perception is sometimes, “you guys are digital printers, right?” This is fair, we have multiple print processes under roof and most of what we produce has an element of print involved. However, if you dig a bit deeper you come to realize that a better way of describing Optima is that we have a lot of great options (aka solutions) for branding environments and a couple of recent projects really illustrate what I’m talking about.

Face To Face

AuthorI was just about to leave my house last weekend when a young man rang my doorbell and asked me to purchase some popcorn to help support his scout troop. Now I was in a hurry but a couple of things struck me about this guy. He was probably 11 to 12 years old, extremely poised, polite, nicely dressed and he had the courage to knock on my door and attempt to sell me something most people really don’t need, or want…so right off the bat he has my attention. You’re Not Supposed To Do That!

AuthorA funny thing happened to me at an outdoor event I attended a couple weekends ago. This event was completely recreational, nothing work related in any way but I suffer from this affliction which causes me to be drawn to graphics and displays whereupon I will dissect the materials they used, the hardware type, etc. So as I was leisurely sampling wares from various craft brewers and bourbon distillers (as I said, this was completely recreational) I noticed a phenomenon that I like to call “they just don’t know any better”. Not Just Trade Shows

AuthorKudos to Gina Porcaro…for the blog she posted last week. I know for a fact some members of our sales group have pasted that one into their notebooks for future reference.

Among her excellent observations, one in particular struck me: it was about diversity in business and she made the comment that 10+ years ago, an exhibit company could be successful focusing exclusively on trade show business. An irony of that talking point is that when I began my tenure with Optima six years ago, I was tasked with strategically targeting customers who were not traditional “Trade Show” companies. However, over the course of the last six years, Read more…

Every Picture Tells a Story, Don’t It?

February 26, 2016 Leave a comment

AuthorPlease forgive the grammar in the title; I am verbatim quoting a lyric from the title track of Rod Stewart’s 1971 album “Every Picture Tells a Story” and yes, I am old enough to remember hearing this song on the radio before it was relegated to the Classic (aka ‘Oldies’) Radio Stations. It’s a catchy tune that really sticks in your head and it got me thinking about how important pictures are when we make a decision about something we plan to buy. Whether it’s an actual photo, or the one that forms in your head as you hear a good story, we really need a clear picture to feel comfortable when making those choices.   Read more…

From BBQ to Q-Cuisine

October 9, 2015 Leave a comment

AuthorJudging from the title, this may seem like leftovers from my last blog (which was homage to the joys of summer) but actually, it’s not. It’s more of an observation of just how far the art of cooking with fire has advanced in my lifetime.

Now, I have the good fortune of growing up in a town (St. Louis, MO) where cooking meat outdoors and adding spice and sauce have a long and storied history. In my lifetime I have seen the practice commonly known as barbeque evolve into something very nearly resembling Q-Cuisine. Read more…
