AuthorWith EXHIBITORLIVE a week plus in the rear view mirror, it is tempting to recap the buzz of the show floor and all the groovy emotional points of the show, but I am going to skip that as it has been done and I am going to focus on a very serious matter. The matter of sharing what is apparently an extremely important matter and cornerstone of the 2017 Optima EXHIBITORLIVE experience – WHO WON THE DANG GUMBALL COUNTING CONTEST!

Do Airports Have Brands?

February 24, 2017 1 comment

AuthorSitting at gate A10 this morning in STL, I was watching the world and interesting people walk by and started thinking about the Dollar Shave Club Guy and when TWA ruled the St. Louis airport and airspace.

See, the DSCG came out of a marketing and ad agency background and from what I understand, had an ah-ha moment a few years back about getting shaving tools and advice and realized that 4 out of 5 dentists agree that most men have no clue as to what they are buying and why. Read more…

I Would Not Have Expected That

AuthorAn observation shared by many in this industry is that there are more folks closer to retirement than their thirtieth birthday. An assessment that was first pointed out to me by an I&D supervisor 4-5 years ago when he said – “look around the floor, there are more of us wearing bifocals than not”. AuthorMany of today’s youth do not get credit for their skillful use of computers, math, and the ole Rubik’s cube. Enter recent high school graduate and new college freshman Connor Wright. Over the summer, Connor was recently named Facebook’s artist in residence and he spent several weeks creating a portrait of Alan Turing (see image below), but he did not use paint or ink or even Crayola Crayons, nope, Connor used 6,534 dominos. Yeah dominos. This is his latest project that combines a number of his skills and passions. Math, science, art, and good ole wondermentality. Our business is full of skill, drive, and an absolute dose of wondermentality.

Blast from the Past

July 22, 2016 3 comments

AuthorAfter returning home from a recent trip, a comment a customer once made to me came to mind. He said, “Lambda – most of the young people in our office do not even know what it is…kinda like when they ask – what’s a turntable?” Similarly, in the world of digital music and easy access to any song via the internet, the genre and art form of vinyl records is now largely lost. Or so I thought.  Read more…
