Until your song is written

Category Icon Test

As some of you know, I am a musician and play in a band outside of work. Writing and composing a song normally starts off with raw ideas that come from some sort of inspiration. It could stem from a rhythm you hear outside that comes from traffic, a bouncing ball or even a child laughing. Most of the time it comes in spur of the moment type of situations. As a musician in a 5 piece band, I am able to take that raw, undeveloped idea and bring it to practice so that I can work with my band mates through the development process of this “idea”, molding it into a workable, structured song or demo track. In the end, we always end up with a final song that is a direct result of our collective inputs.

d-RailedThe important step within this process is I have a team I work with, a group of like-minded individuals that understand and care about the end result and the process that it takes to get there. Over the years we have learned so much about each other that we work in unison without even knowing it. Our hands flow from note to note, chord to chord in exact time throughout the songs. When we practice raw ideas or just free jam, we are able to anticipate each other’s changes or timing – while coming up with our own ideas on the fly. This relationship is what makes us successful as a whole.

When it comes to your next project, remember you don’t have to write the song by yourself. You have a team of like-minded, customer-focused individuals that will work with you each step of the way – until your song is written.

Optima is your band – Let’s rock.

Hi Daniel, This is a wonderful framework for understanding what we all do. I use music – composition and conduction – most often when teaching my students about the art and business of creating exhibitions. I’ll be passing your posting along to them. Keep them coming!

Thank you Brenda. I thought it was a perfect example of the time and collaborative teamwork it takes to fill our clients’ needs. When it comes to creativity we all dip into the same pool of talent. Sometimes it’s used in different “colors” – Music, painting, sculpting, designing, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I appreciate the kind words!
